Volvo Service 'au féminin'Jaylene Witala - Volvo Lady Mechanic“As long as it’s perfect, it’s good enough for me” were the words I heard from my dad Ken Witala throughout my 4 year apprenticeship at Scandia Motors in Maple Ridge. I discovered my mechanical aptitude as well as my passion for fixing cars while living in Dawson Creek where my ailing 86 Volvo 760 Turbo required a new fuel pump. Dad sent a used pump on Greyhound and after his excellent coaching, I was on my way once again! I enjoy working with my hands as well as the satisfaction of fixing a problem.

When I called home to tell my parents I wanted to be a mechanic, at first they were hesitant, but my dad soon signed me on as apprentice anyways. For the first few months, he would not let me buy any nice tools, afraid I might not stick with it. He forgot another saying that I had grown up hearing: “if you are going to do something, commit and do it right”.
I committed and finished top of my class in my fourth year as well as achieving high marks on the Inter-provincial exam. Finally, I was allowed to buy nice tools !
My dad is a man of honesty and integrity. It is the way he runs his business and the way he raised my brother and I.
After traveling for a year and being a little low on funds, I came back looking for a new venture. Seeing The Volvo Lady’s passion for Volvos as well as how she operates her business made it an easy transition for me. Maybe one day I can be the new and improved Volvo Lady.
I enjoy what I do as well as being able to help people. Getting your car fixed can be an intimidating situation, not only for women but anyone without automotive experience. My goal is to help you make this sometimes uncomfortable situation as pleasant and stress-free as possible.
I love older Volvos and know them intimately. Our hourly labour rate is ridiculously low - $60 per hour. Please understand that we are limited in our ability to repair your Sweedie, but hopefully we take care of most of your automotive needs.
Please contact us regarding any service related questions, including repair estimates.
